Feelings of suicide is not as rare as you think. Many people feel suicidal but they don’t voice how they feel… so if you’re reading this…you’re not alone.

The world is a difficult place and life throws many challenges at us, sometimes all at once where you feel like you can no longer keep your head above water anymore. It’s easier to just end it all…isn’t it?

Well, I’m not here to disagree with that, because it can feel like it’s easier. But the easy option isn’t always the best option.

The reason I say this, is because one of the characteristics of life is that it changes. All the time. Therefore when you come to the point of contemplating ending your life, there is a limited amount of options you can see to the issues you face in that moment in time.

As time moves on and others’ actions have ripple effects, your situation changes. And not to mention your own actions can also create change in your life. Therefore making a decision to end your life may mean that you will miss out on a greater version of it in the imminent future.

Now, again, i’m not saying it is easy… but remember easy isn’t always best. You always have agency of change. You can always influence your life to create things you don’t have. You no longer have to be a victim. And I guarantee you that there are other options to your life’s situation that can help you feel good, which you can not see at this moment in time. Just as fog covers various paths lying ahead, so does depression to the solutions in your life.

I work with many clients in helping them to change their perceptions about their life and to see what choices they have. A lot of this work is deep internal changes, especially when the issues stem from childhood. We can not control what happens to us or around us (if we could, the world would be majorly different, for sure!) but we can control how we view the world, ourselves and what meaning we give to the things that happen to us. And if many of these issues do originate from your past, its better to heal those internal wounds to gain a healthy vision of yourself and your life. Again, not easy… but easy isn’t always best.

I strongly suggest that if you feel suicidal, first visit your GP, call 116123 (Samaritans) in times of crisis, be patient and work with a therapist/counsellor in getting your own perspective to a healthy one that helps you feel good about yourself and can help you find a purpose in life. And remember, if you’re feeling this way and you just don’t believe how things could be different for you right now… hang on in there, I assure you it can.
